Made in Abyss - looks happy go lucky on the outside, but it will crush you. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is also a good dark/fantasy, although the visuals would make you think otherwise. It's quite a ride! The Cain Saga by the same manga author has more pronounced subtextual BL and is a gothic Victorian fantasy that truly goes places. Also highly recommended. As for actual BL, Kuro no Kishi: Black Knight might be up your alley, but the story is far more focused on romance than fantasy imo.
But it’s executed really well, leading to a very eerie and unpleasant vibe throughout the entire show. 14. Eden of The East. Eden of the East is the type of anime that initially just confuses the hell out of you, but then quickly sucks you in with no hopes of return. I mean, just look at the initial setup:

The film follows Rihito Sajou and Hiraku Kusakabe, two people with conflicting personalities and very few common interests. Rihito is what you would call an intelligent student.The dark fantasy anime follows Denji, a really unfortunate teenager who has lived a rough life for years since his father passed away- leaving behind an overwhelming debt for him to pay. Although he has every reason to be unhappy, he finds some semblance of normalcy and sanity through his pet, chainsaw devil Pochita.
